What is Glove House Continued

Glove House was founded thirty-five years ago by a group of caring individuals who recognized that there were children in our communities not receiving the life tools they needed to become successful citizens.  We have served over 9,000 children through our community based programs since 1970.  Thousands more children, their siblings and their families have been helped by our in-home preventive and outreach program services, averting the need for residential placement.

  • Glove House is a not-for profit agency that provides treatment for adolescents who require placement out of their home.

  • We keep children safe and offer the most appropriate level of care to help them and their families.

  • We provide care that is community-based, enabling the child to maintain pivotal relationships with their family, school, and community.

  • We also help children who are transitioning back into the community from a higher level of care, such as an institution.

How did Glove House begin?

Glove House began in the Elmira community thirty-five years ago through the dedication of a man named Chuck Jennings.

Chuck was not a professional child-care worker, nor did he have an education in Human Services.  He was simply a man with a vision. A vision of helping our youth who had fallen through the cracks .

Through his perseverance (knocking on doors in his community for three years), the first Glove House Group Home was opened on Church Street in 1970.
