Children in the respite program are fully integrated into the activities of the home while they are in residence.  The program emphasizes responsibility and social independent living skills through a structured, supportive environment. Placement in respite will require an agreed upon length of stay and generally will not exceed 21 days.

Glove House operates one Office of Mental Health respite home in Tioga County, one emergency bed and three planned beds in Seneca County (a youth can have up to 14 days in the Seneca Mental Health Respite).

Goals

To provide short-term placement of children with the primary focus on reunification of the family.

Objectives
  • To provide temporary support to children whose families have destabilized.

  • To provide safe, secure temporary housing for children who are at risk of losing their foster care placement.

  • To work with local service providers and family members to identify and develop resources to respond to issues leading to risk of hospitalization/placement.

  • To assess families’ service needs to determine an appropriate treatment plan in order for the family to remain intact.

Services

Certified foster parent(s) provide supervision to youngsters as appropriate within the residence and during activities outside of the home.  The children continue to attend their home school while in the program.  Foster parents provide behavior management strategies on an individualized age-appropriate basis within a consistent environment. Other services are facilitated as indicated, including medical or psychological services.  Foster parents communicate as necessary with each child’s responsible worker or other involved service providers.  Foster parents facilitate visitation between children and family members and may direct family members to appropriate resources for questions or concerns they may have regarding available services.
